OPERATIONAL DATA ACCESS ON NCEP CENTRAL COMPUTER SYSTEM
|
OPR: Jeff Ator
Certified by: Maxine Brown
Type of Issuance: Initial
NCEP Central Operations (NCO) strives to provide appropriate
access to operational model data for its users without unnecessary difficulties
or artificial restriction. NCO also
intends to protect these data assets through security measures.
This policy applies to all users of NCEP's Central Computer System,
to researchers, to users outside of the NCEP boundary and to all operational
data regardless of the form of storage or presentation.
Any exceptions to this policy must be
requested in writing and approved by the NCEP Chief Information Officer (CIO).
The two categories of NCEP data are unrestricted
(freely available data) and restricted:
- The default access for unrestricted data is
"OPEN ACCESS", which allows any user to
access, copy, and distribute these data at any time.
The data in this category are available upon receipt of an
account on the NCEP Central Computer supercomputer.
-
The default access for restricted data is
"RESTRICTED ACCESS", which allows only
authorized users to access, distribute or share these data as stipulated in the
legal agreements between NCEP and the data providers.
Any request to grant or revoke access to restricted data must be
provided in writing to NCEP's
Central Computer System Administration Team.
Anyone denied access to restricted data may appeal the denial to the
NCEP CIO. To view a listing of the
current types of restricted data as well as the details of the accompanying
restrictions, or to obtain an access request form, please visit

Failure to comply with this policy
or any actions deemed inappropriate by the NCEP CIO may result in denial of
access.
