Monthly Raob Data Manual QC Report for Feb. 2022

Previous Monthly Raob Data Reports of Manual Quality Control

SUBJECT: Monthly Raob Data Report of Manual Quality Control

The Raob Report for February, compiled from the Raob Recap statements in the
SDM logs, which does not necessarily include data that were rejected by
automated computer generated quality control, indicates the following:

(1) Reports from 31 U.S. stations (Blocks 72 and 74) were cited at least
once; 16 were cited at least twice; and 7 were cited at least three times.
Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or more no
reports:

STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL
                    72520/PBZ 1 35 36
                    72208/CHS 1 4 4*
                    72402/WAL 3 2 5
                    72493/OAK 4 4

All equipment failures reported by PBZ, CHS, and OAK in February were
ground equipment failures. All manual deletions at stations PBZ, CHS,
and WAL in February were due to super-adiabatic lapse rates.

(2) Reports from 42 stations in blocks 04, 70, 71, 76, 78 and 91 were cited
at least once; 29 were cited at least twice; and 17 were cited at least three
times. Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or
more no reports:

STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL

                    76692/HYY 4 4

Station LAP reported ground equipment failures for the first half of the month
and flight equipment failures during the second half of the month. Elsewhere,
stations YAK, GCM, CUR, VHA, and ANN reported ground equipment failures at
various times throughout February. Stations MID and HYY reported flight
equipment failures in February. The vast majority of manual deletions at
stations VHA, PNI, and YYE were due to super-adiabatic lapse rates. At
station YAK, both instances of manual deletions were caused by spurious
winds.

* The total differs from the sum of the itemized citations
because of multiple citations in the same raob(s).

Citation Codes Key:
DEL All or part of the raob was flagged for deletion.
BAS A baseline hgt/station press error was corrected or purged.
COR At least one correction other than baseline was made.
XRP Station sent no report at all when one was required.
EFL Equipment failure (codes 10142, 10144, 10158, etc.)
SHO Raob flight was short; ie, to less than 400 mb.
