Monthly Raob Data Manual QC Report for Dec. 2021
Previous Monthly Raob Data Reports of Manual Quality Control
SUBJECT: Monthly Raob Data Report of Manual Quality Control
The Raob Report for December, compiled from the Raob Recap statements in the
SDM logs, which does not necessarily include data that were rejected by
automated computer generated quality control, indicates the following:
(1) Reports from 34 U.S. stations (Blocks 72 and 74) were cited at least
once; 13 were cited at least twice; and 10 were cited at least three times.
Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or more no
reports:
STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL
72248/SHV 3 5 8
72632/DTX 1 7 7*
72230/BMX 3 1 4
72365/ABQ 1 3 4
All equipment failures reported at SHV, DTX, BMX, and ABQ were for ground
equipment failures at various times during the month. All manual deletions at
the same four sites were due to super-adiabatic lapse rates.
(2) Reports from 49 stations in blocks 04, 70, 71, 76, 78 and 91 were cited
at least once; 31 were cited at least twice; and 17 were cited at least three
times. Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or
more no reports:
STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL
70308/SNP 34 34
78384/GCM 18 18
70231/MCG 1 12 13
70219/BET 2 9 11
70133/OTZ 7 7
70361/YAK 5 5
70398/ANN 5 5
71082/YLT 2 2 4
76225/CUU 2 2 4
78397/KIN 4 4
Almost all equipment failures reported at the stations noted above were due to
ground equipment failures. Manual deletions were more varied. At stations BET
and KIN, manual deletions were due to super-adiabatic lapse rates. At stations,
MCG, YLT, and CUU most of the deletions were due to problematic temperatures
and/or heights, but at CUU there was also one instance of deleted winds.
* The total differs from the sum of the itemized citations
because of multiple citations in the same raob(s).
Citation Codes Key:
DEL All or part of the raob was flagged for deletion.
BAS A baseline hgt/station press error was corrected or purged.
COR At least one correction other than baseline was made.
XRP Station sent no report at all when one was required.
EFL Equipment failure (codes 10142, 10144, 10158, etc.)
SHO Raob flight was short; ie, to less than 400 mb.
