Monthly Raob Data Manual QC Report for Aug. 2021
Previous Monthly Raob Data Reports of Manual Quality Control
SUBJECT: Monthly Raob Data Report of Manual Quality Control
The Raob Report for August, compiled from the Raob Recap statements in the
SDM logs, which does not necessarily include data that were rejected by
automated computer generated quality control, indicates the following:
(1) Reports from 32 U.S. stations (Blocks 72 and 74) were cited at least
once; 15 were cited at least twice; and 7 were cited at least three times.
Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or more no
reports:
STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL
72318/RNK 2 1 1 4
72365/ABQ 4 4
72558/OAX 1 3 4
72747/INL 3 1 4
Stations ABQ and OAX reported ground equipment failures at various times
throughout the month. All manual deletions at stations RNK and INL were
due to super-adiabatic lapse rates.
(2) Reports from 51 stations in blocks 04, 70, 71, 76, 78 and 91 were cited
at least once; 26 were cited at least twice; and 17 were cited at least three
times. Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or
more no reports:
STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL
91348/PNI 49 49
78384/GCM 40 40
70200/OME 38 38
70026/BRW 30 30
76394/MTY 11 11
70308/SNP 8 8
71917/YEU 6 1 1 7*
91334/TKK 1 5 6
70414/SYA 1 3 1 5
76405/LAP 4 1 5
91765/PPG 5 5
71926/YBK 4 1 4*
The vast majority of equipment failures at all of the above listed stations
were due to ground equipment failures with only a handful of flight equipment
failures and power failures. Deletions at stations PPG were primarily due to
super-adiabatic lapse rates. Station YEU also had some super-adiabatic lapse
rates, but there were also deletions due to spurious temperatures. Most of
the deletions at station MTY were due to high heights.
* The total differs from the sum of the itemized citations
because of multiple citations in the same raob(s).
Citation Codes Key:
DEL All or part of the raob was flagged for deletion.
BAS A baseline hgt/station press error was corrected or purged.
COR At least one correction other than baseline was made.
XRP Station sent no report at all when one was required.
EFL Equipment failure (codes 10142, 10144, 10158, etc.)
SHO Raob flight was short; ie, to less than 400 mb.
