About the OMB

The Operational Monitoring Branch (OMB) supports the distribution of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's numerical modeling production suite, ensures continuous acquisition and dissemination of other domestic and foreign hydrometeorological data and products, monitors the quality of the sensors in thousands of Automated Surface Operations Systems (ASOS), and ensures the reliability of NCEP's real-time data processing, analysis, forecast, and product generation services on a 24x7x365 basis. OMB also monitors the operational processing of applications on NOAA's Integrated Dissemination Program System (IDP).

The OMB supports NWS and NCEP in the following areas:

• Runs the ASOS Operational Monitoring Center (AOMC)
• Runs the Central Data Switching System (also known as the NWS Telecommunications Gateway, or "Gateway" for short)
• Monitors and provides "Tier-1" support of the NCEP Production Job Suite running on the Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputing System (WCOSS)
• Monitors applications running on the IDP
• Monitors a private enterprise wide-area network for NWS and NWS's federal, private, and international partners in support of One NWSnet (legacy OPSnet)
• Monitors both the CONUS and OCONUS circuits for NEXRAD
• Monitors 824 Networx dial lines and 590 commercial circuits for surface observations
• Monitors other telecommunications such as NIDS, GTS, upper air, marine comms, ship reports, lightning data, Buenos Aires comms, Canada comms, and the Hurricane Hotline.

The Senior Duty Meteorologists (SDM) and Senior Operations Specialists (SOS) in College Park are part of OMB.
