ACARS Decoder

IMPORTANT: If you haven't already done so, be sure to read the overview document that contains information relevant to all of the NCEP decoders!

The NCEP ACARS Decoder parses WMO BUFR messages containing ACARS (Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System) data into the NCEP Decoder Interface Format. These ACARS BUFR messages are provided to the NWS and other members of the meteorological community under contract from ARINC, a private-sector firm whose mention here is for informational purposes only and in no way implies nor constitutes an endorsement on the part of the NWS nor any other U.S. government agency.

Known Decoder Deficiencies:

  • None

Related Documents:

  • The NCEP Decoder Interface Format - a fairly detailed description of the output format that is used by all of the NCEP decoders, including examples of how to easily re-encode this output into your own desired final format
  • Interface Output from the NCEP ACARS Decoder - a tabular listing of all of the decoded values available within the interface format output from the NCEP ACARS Decoder
