SUBJECT: Monthly Raob Data Report of Manual Quality Control

The Raob Report for April, compiled from the Raob Recap statements in the
SDM logs, which does not necessarily include data that were rejected by
automated computer generated quality control, indicates the following:

(1) Reports from 37 U.S. stations (Blocks 72 and 74) were cited at least
once; 18 were cited at least twice; and 9 were cited at least three times.
Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or more no
reports:

STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL
                    72202/MFL 3 5 8
                    72214/TAE 3 4 7
                    72230/BMX 1 3 2 6
                    72357/OUN 2 3 4*
                    72388/VEF 4 4
                    72456/TOP 2 1 1 4

All of the above stations that were flagged for deletions had at least one wet
bulb effect purgest of temperature and moisture. All of the equipment failures
noted were ground equipment failures. Finally, all of the short flights from
MFL terminated between 500mb and 400mb. Two out of the three short flights
from OUN terminated between 1000mb and 900mb.

(2) Reports from 35 stations in blocks 04, 70, 71, 76, 78 and 91 were cited
at least once; 23 were cited at least twice; and 15 were cited at least three
times. Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or
more no reports:

STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL
                    76654/MZL 30 30

                    78897/PTP 4 1 5

                    76595/CUN 3 1 4

At stations MTY, PNI, PTP, BDA, and CUN, temperatures and moisture were purged
numerous times due to super adiabatic lapse rates. Flight eqipment failures
were commonplace at MZL, HYY, and CUU, while ground equipment failures were
more common at NAS and MZT.

* The total differs from the sum of the itemized citations
because of multiple citations in the same raob(s).

Citation Codes Key:
DEL All or part of the raob was flagged for deletion.
BAS A baseline hgt/station press error was corrected or purged.
COR At least one correction other than baseline was made.
XRP Station sent no report at all when one was required.
EFL Equipment failure (codes 10142, 10144, 10158, etc.)
SHO Raob flight was short; ie, to less than 400 mb.
