SUBJECT: Monthly Raob Data Report of Manual Quality Control

The Raob Report for June, compiled from the Raob Recap statements in the
SDM logs, which does not necessarily include data that were rejected by
automated computer generated quality control, indicates the following:

(1) Reports from 32 U.S. stations (Blocks 72 and 74) were cited at least
once; 14 were cited at least twice; and 7 were cited at least three times.
Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or more no
reports:

STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL
                    72403/LWX 3 1 1 5
                    72747/INL 1 4 5
                    72768/GGW 3 2 5
                    72250/BRO 3 1 4

Station INL reported ground equipment failures on the 19th and 20th. Station
GGW reported a ground equipment failure on the 17th, and station BRO reported
ground equipment failures on the 20th and 21st. The vast majority of manual
deletions were due to super-adiabatic lapse rates, with the exception of one
deletion at station GGW, which was due to warm temperatures.

(2) Reports from 40 stations in blocks 04, 70, 71, 76, 78 and 91 were cited
at least once; 23 were cited at least twice; and 17 were cited at least three
times. Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or
more no reports:

                    78897/PTP 4 4

Stations HYY, LAP, GYM, MZL, and MZT reported flight equipment failures
throughout the month. Station SJU reported flight equipment failures from the
7th through the 15th. Station CUU reported flight equipment failures from the
25th through the 28th, but it reported ground equipment failures on the 21st
and 22nd. At stations LIH and PPG, all deletions were due to super-adiabatic
lapse rates. At stations PTP and CUR, half of the deletions throughout the
month were for super-adiabatic lapse rates. At station CUR, three of the
deletions were for all reported heights due to baseline errors. At PTP, half
of the deletions were due to spurious heights starting at 100mb. Finally,
at station YUX, all deletions were due to anomalously strong winds at the
surface, and all of these deletions occurred from the 2nd through the 6th
of the month.

* The total differs from the sum of the itemized citations
because of multiple citations in the same raob(s).

Citation Codes Key:
DEL All or part of the raob was flagged for deletion.
BAS A baseline hgt/station press error was corrected or purged.
COR At least one correction other than baseline was made.
XRP Station sent no report at all when one was required.
EFL Equipment failure (codes 10142, 10144, 10158, etc.)
SHO Raob flight was short; ie, to less than 400 mb.
