Previous Monthly Raob Data Reports of Manual Quality Control
SUBJECT: Monthly Raob Data Report of Manual Quality Control

The Raob Report for August, compiled from the Raob Recap statements in the
SDM logs, which does not necessarily include data that were rejected by
automated computer generated quality control, indicates the following:

(1) Reports from 35 U.S. stations (Blocks 72 and 74) were cited at least
once; 11 were cited at least twice; and 5 were cited at least three times.
Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or more no
reports:

STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL
                    72393/VBG 6 6
                    72662/UNR 6 6
                    72357/OUN 1 4 1 5*

                    72274/TWC 1 2 2 4*

All six manual deletions for station VBG were for super-adiabatic lapse rates/
wet bulb effects. UNR reported ground equipment failures from the 10th through
the 12th inclusive, and FGZ reported ground equipment failures from the 19th
through the 20th inclusive. Finally, ground equipment failures were reported
a few times during the latter half of the month by OUN.

(2) Reports from 40 stations in blocks 04, 70, 71, 76, 78 and 91 were cited
at least once; 23 were cited at least twice; and 16 were cited at least three
times. Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or
more no reports:

There were numerous ground equipment failures reported by Pacific stations
TKK and PNI and Caribbean station CUR. In Mexico, ground equipment failures
were also reported by stations GYM, VHA, MZL, and TAP. In addition, Mexican
stations HYY, GYM, and ACA reported numerous flight equipment failures, and ACA
and MZL each reported one instance of a power failure. Caribbean station SXM
had three instances of sonde termination below 470 mb. With respect to manual
deletions, deletions of PPG data were for super-adiabatic lapse rates/wet bulb
effects, while deletions of TAP data were for baseline errors/heights.

* The total differs from the sum of the itemized citations
because of multiple citations in the same raob(s).

Citation Codes Key:
DEL All or part of the raob was flagged for deletion.
BAS A baseline hgt/station press error was corrected or purged.
COR At least one correction other than baseline was made.
XRP Station sent no report at all when one was required.
EFL Equipment failure (codes 10142, 10144, 10158, etc.)
SHO Raob flight was short; ie, to less than 400 mb.
