SUBJECT: Monthly Raob Data Report of Manual Quality Control

The Raob Report for May, compiled from the Raob Recap statements in the
SDM logs, which does not necessarily include data that were rejected by
automated computer generated quality control, indicates the following:

(1) Reports from 27 U.S. stations (Blocks 72 and 74) were cited at least
once; 12 were cited at least twice; and 5 were cited at least three times.
Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or more no
reports:

STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL
                    72250/BRO 1 6 1 8
                    72393/VBG 4 4

BRO reported ground equipment problems on the 10th of the month and again on
the 22nd, 23rd, and 25th. Manual deletions of temperature and moisture for
VBG were a result of the wet bulb effect.

(2) Reports from 37 stations in blocks 04, 70, 71, 76, 78 and 91 were cited
at least once; 20 were cited at least twice; and 14 were cited at least three
times. Of those, the following were cited more than three times or had two or
more no reports:

STATION__ DEL BAS COR XRP EFL SHO TOTAL

                    91765/PPG 4 4

Stations MZT, MZL, GYM, and ACA reported flight equipment problems frequently
throughout the month. Station YAP had a series of ground equipment problems
between the 24th and 27th of the month. Due to baseline errors in which heights
and temperatures were consistently low and cold or high and warm, heights and
temperatures were the most frequent deletions for ZAC, MEX, and HYY. Winds were
deleted serveral times for SXM primarily due to wind direction problems. The
manual deletions for SJU and PPG were for temperature and moisture due to the wet
bulb effect.

* The total differs from the sum of the itemized citations
because of multiple citations in the same raob(s).

Citation Codes Key:
DEL All or part of the raob was flagged for deletion.
BAS A baseline hgt/station press error was corrected or purged.
COR At least one correction other than baseline was made.
XRP Station sent no report at all when one was required.
EFL Equipment failure (codes 10142, 10144, 10158, etc.)
SHO Raob flight was short; ie, to less than 400 mb.
