Eta/NAM, FNL/GDAS, and TDL/MDL Renaming and its effect on data locations on NCOSRV

NCEP is currently in the process of renaming both its AVN and Eta forecast models to better reflect the functions of these models. The AVN model is being renamed to the GFS (Global Forecast System) and the Eta model is being renamed to NAM (North American Mesoscale). This renaming process will be complete once NCEP Central Operations (NCO) begins operational processing on Phase II of its Central Computing System (CCS) in Gaithersburg, MD. The date for this event is currently scheduled for Tuesday, January 25, 2005. To accomodate these name changes, NCO will be changing the names of several other files and directories on its CCS to streamline how data are stored on the CCS. All of these changes will create noticable differences in the locations and names of files on the NCOSRV. NCEP is currently providing data with the new names and locations on its NCOSRV. DBNet Message Alerts are also changing to reflect the new model names. Users of this server should transistion their processing that downloads data from these servers to the new names and directories as soon as possible. On Tuesday, 25 January 2005, the data sets with the old names and directory structures will no longer exist. Please use the following information below to aid in your transistion to the new file names and directory locations.

I Eta/NAM

1. Old directory:

New directory:

/pub/data/model/grid/gempak/nam

Under the NAM directory structure files are being renamed as follows:
