Release Notes: glwu.v2.0.0 Released January 24, 2023 Model upgrade to v2.0.0 Where is the release tag on subversion/git/vlab? https://github.com/NOAA-EMC/glwu.git branch feature_v2.0 Tag: IT-glwu.v2.0.0-20230124 This upgrade will: Update GLWU Wave model core (WAVEWATCH III) from 5.16 to latest public release. Increase ice concentration analysis resolution from 5 km to 500 m. Add a new lake to the Great Lakes forecast System (Lake Champlain). With the addition of the new lake the workflow has been redesigned to run two sets of parallel jobs one for the Great Lakes and one for Lake Champlain. New ecf scripts, job cards, and utility scripts have been added to address this change. The ecf scripts and job cards have the same name structure as the existing ones with a “_LC” at the end of the names to indicate Lake Champlain domain. The OD Brief presentation for this upgrade can be found here. List of external software used (anything outside of your vertical structure), including compilers and version numbers for everything. Software used must be a minimal list of modules/versions specified per job: jwave_glwu_prep & jwave_glwu_lc_prep: envvar/1.0 prod_envir/2.0.5 prod_util/2.0.8 PrgEnv-intel/8.1.0 craype/2.7.8 intel/19.1.3.304 cray-mpich/8.1.7 cray-pals/1.0.12 cfp/2.0.4 wgrib2/2.0.8 hdf5/1.10.6 jwave_glwu_forecast & jwave_glwu_lc_forecast: envvar/1.0 prod_envir/2.0.5 prod_util/2.0.8 PrgEnv-intel/8.1.0 craype/2.7.8 intel/19.1.3.304 cray-mpich/8.1.7 cray-pals/1.0.12 hdf5/1.10.6 netcdf/4.7.4 libfabric/1.11.0.4.75 jasper/2.0.25 libpng/1.6.37 libjpeg/9c zlib/1.2.11 g2/3.4.5 w3nco/2.4.1 w3emc/2.9.2 bacio/2.4.1 cmake/3.20.2 jwave_glwu_post & jwave_glwu_lc_post envvar/1.0 prod_envir/2.0.5 prod_util/2.0.8 PrgEnv-intel/8.1.0 craype/2.7.8 intel/19.1.3.304 cfp/2.0.4 wgrib2/2.0.8 grib_util/1.2.2 hdf5/1.10.6 netcdf/4.7.4 jwave_glwu_pgen& jwave_glwu_lc_pgen: envvar/1.0 prod_envir/2.0.5 prod_util/2.0.8 PrgEnv-intel/8.1.0 craype/2.7.8 intel/19.1.3.304 libpng/1.6.37 grib_util/1.2.2 wgrib2/2.0.8 util_shared/1.4.0 List of all code/scripts modified with this release (relative to v1.1.1) Added version updates and modules for the WAVEWATCH III model core: versions/build.ver versions/run.ver modulefiles/build_glwu.module modulefiles/build_wavewatch3.modules Redesigned the model core make and build with cmake. WAVEWATCH III has also been added as a submodule, therefore all the multiwave*.fd directories have been omitted. Added ush/waveice_lc.sh for Lake Champlain Domain ice files preprocessing job. Added ush/wavestart_glwu_lc.sh for Lake Champlain restart files. For development only (please ignore): Were any other changes made that aren’t directly related to the transition? No Are there any changes to incoming data needs or outgoing products? Yes, Adding a new Lake into the system has added dependencies to HRRR, GFS and Burlington WFO Ice fields. HRRR and GFS would be coming through com. And the Ice concentrations are coming through Burlington WFO, LDM upload through ERH). The data is currently in dev/dcom. Data flow ticket has been submitted to promote the data to prod/dcom.( RITM0241060) If output filenames are changing, list the current and new filename: NOMADS: Current: glwu.grlc_2p5km.tCCz.grib2 glwu.grlc_2p5km_sr.tCCz.grib2 glwu.grlr_500m.tCCz.grib2 glwu.glwu.tCCz.nc point.glwu.tCCz.nc glwu.tCCz.bull_tar glwu.tCCz.spec_tar.gz glwu.tCCz.cbull_tar glwu.tCCz.csbull_tar glwu.tCCz.ripin_tar glwu.tCCz.ts_tar New: glwu.grlc_2p5km_lc.tCCz.grib2 glwu.grlc_2p5km_lc_sr.tCCz.grib2 glwu.grlr_500m_lc.tCCz.grib2 glwu.glwu_lc.tCCz.nc AWIPS: Current: glwu.tCCz.awipsbull grib2.tCCz.awipsww3_grlc_2p5km_sr grib2.tCCz.awipsww3_grlc_2p5km New: grib2.tCCz.awipsww3_grlc_2p5km_lc_sr grib2.t01z.awipsww3_grlc_2p5km_lc Compute resource information, for every job: (More details in this presentation Slide #40 onward ) *** Providing PBS and/or ecFlow submission scripts as part of release tag is preferred; if they are provided then resource information is not needed in the release notes.
