A change is being made to the gfdl_swathps.fd source code. This source code runs in the GFDL_POST job and produces a graphic that shows the track of a hurricane along with a plot of the maximum forecast winds overlaid on top. This code currently has a bug in it that is preventing the wind swath from being plotted for storm locations that are relatively close to the equator. This product is frequently used by the forecast specialists at NHC. With this change, the specialists will have a fixed product that does not have any "holes" in the data. The primary users of the graphical output from gfdl_swathps are the forecast specialists at NHC. This fix will provide the specialists with a fixed product that does not have any "holes" in the data. There will be no change to the sizes of the files being output. There are no files being added or deleted. The products is currently broken. The only risk is that something else goes wrong with this same executable and the forecasters would be without this product... which is basically what they are faced with right now with the code in its broken state. Copy the source to /nwprod/sorc/gfdl_swathps.fd and make the executable. This is RFC #1 of 2 to be submitted for the GFDL model today. Please treat this as a crisis RFC.
